DepSkillz presents

“Saigon-Style Acoustic Jam”

Funk, Rock, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Blues, Acid-Jazz, and World Music played acoustically with improv.

Mr. Bo, glennSKii, friends, guests, and jammers combine to create an acoustic, yet funky and rockin’ live event every week in Street Pub.  As the sets progress, more playing time will be allotted to guest jammers.  Musicians who show great skillz and/or fit to the over-all tastes of the crowd and the musicians will be welcome to jam longer.  Some funky/soulful covers will be a part of the night to provide a balance, but most will be “changed-up”, but don’t expect a night made exclusively of covers – and definitely not a night of ballads!  The core instruments will be drums, acoustic guitar, and vocals.  Almost any instruments are welcome to join, but should not drown out the guitars or vocals.  The goal is to make this a truly and completely open jam when there is enough musical improv talent (and courage) in the club.

“From my experience in weekly jam sessions in Europe, I would highly recommend being a part of this new weekly event from its infancy.  I think you will be happy you witnessed this weekly event evolve.  I know those who did this back where I come from feel this way about the events we did there.  We hope you will be a part of this – whether you play an instrument or a table-top, or prefer to simply listen, dance, and party.” mC glennSKii

on Sundays: June  5th, 12th, 19th, 26th

DepSkillz presents

“Sound System Sundays”

DepSkillz & guest DJs supported by musicians

Funk, Hip-Hop, Break-Beat, Acid-Jazz, 70’s Disco & Soul, Grooves, Mo-Town, Improv, Reggae, Drum’n’Bass

A DJ playing with live musicians is called a “sound system”.  This is a great way to throw a party.  As we all know, music played by a DJ allows for clean, full sounds, a large selection of music, as well as many other plusses…. While live music (especially improvised) provides emotion that you just can’t find anywhere else.  So imagine combining the two.  On these “Sound System Sundays”, “The Rebelz” duo of Justice and Professor Icee perform as both DJs and MC’s along with vocal/MC and instrumental guests for sound-system improv, free-style, old-school covers, and original material.  mC glennSKii and others will be guesting on a regular basis.  Also, Justice and Professor Icee will invite guest DJ’s on some Sundays.

glennSKii (w/ Monkey Funks) – “Funky Monks”

In this YouTube vid, glennSKii does a Red Hot Chili Peppers Cover with his band “Monkey Funks”.   The beginning, end, and for a few seconds in the middle, the audio from this concert.  The rest of the audio is from the Monkey Funks Demo material mixed by glennSKii.

Welcome to SaiGon – the Rebelz

Fresh from Vietnam, the Rebelz first video off of their 2011
EP: Welcome to Saigon (Xin Chao Sai Gon)
Featuring: Justin Murta (Justice), Jairus Green (Professor Icee) & Big South Crew (Vietnam)
Video by 84 Production & Directed by Vietmax

Lyrics:
Xin Chào Sài Gòn
Justin Murta (Justice):
Welcome to Saigon lemme turn my mike on,
Xin Chao to doubt kid yo! it’s time to get our hype on!
Like Crazeone the Titan gonna get his write on
Cảm ơn to the fans understand I’m not the white one,
With a back pack, a nap sack and some whack raps,
Stay one day look the other way and fly back,
I’m here to press play and hold it down each day,
And each one teach one call me Tay ba lô with the sick flow,
Not the usual mass produced crap you find on the usual,
Spike helmet and I keep real trill,
An mifft Vietmax never lets me get the bill,
So I’m climbin higher still cuz nothin’s gonna stop us,
I got heat like I’m sittin on a hot bus,
I won’t fail y’all I’m on my promise,
I only come correct plus I bring the bom ish!

Chorus: 2X
We got beats! Yeah yeah yeah
Most cats don’t! No No No
We got heat! Yeah yeah yeah
And more than just a little!
The type that make you sweat through your clothes!

Jairus Green (Professor Icee):
Wait a minute paws like the feet of a cat,
Hold all your applause till the end of the act,
Where we at where we at? Saigon it’s a fact,
Where we break to the beat plus the heat and the bats!
Saigon mess around an believe me it’s on,
Keep your motor bike locked or believe me it’s gone,
We got the Big South Crew and believe me it’s strong,
And when the music is through then believe me it’s dawn!
Cuz there ain’t no party like when the Rebelz throw a party,
And we about to put it down right now,
And if sucka gonna say he throw a better party,
Then you know he a liar like “XAO!”
Cuz the Rebelz gonna hit you with that Rhythm,
You gonna feel it down in your toes..
Let’s give what we came to give’m … yo Jus’ lette’m know!
WHEN THE BEAT GOES!!!
Chorus: 4X
We got beats! Yeah yeah yeah
Most cats don’t! No No No
We got heat! Yeah yeah yeah
And more than just a little!
The type that make you sweat through your clothes!

Xin Chào Sài Gòn
Justin Murta:
Chorus:
We got beats! Yeah yeah yeah
Most cats don’t! No No No
We got heat! Yeah yeah yeah
And more than just a little!
The type that make you sweat through your clothes!
Jairus Green:
